Origins of GITZO
The brand was founded in France in 1917 by Arsène Gitzhoven. Initially, the company produced shutter release cables for cameras, shutters, and other equipment for photographers. The brand name is derived from the name of its founder, a common practice at the time.
Switch to Tripods
In the 1950s, GITZO took a decisive step in the photography industry by venturing into the manufacturing of camera tripods. Their innovation in this field, particularly with the introduction of materials like carbon and sophisticated designs, has made GITZO a name synonymous with quality and durability in the world of professional photography.
In 1960, Arsène Gitzhoven retires and his daughter, Yvonne Plieger, takes over the business to run it with her husband. They devote their lives to the development of high-quality tripods and ball heads, products exported to more than 54 countries.

Technological Advancements and Acquisition
Over the decades, GITZO has continued to innovate with increasingly advanced products. In the 1990s, for example, the company introduced carbon fiber tripods, offering photographers lighter yet extremely durable equipment.
